The University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the Center for International Legal Education are pleased to host the 2023 Midyear Meeting of the American Society of International Law from Thursday, November 9-Saturday, November 11. Thursday's Practitioners’ Forum (CLE available) will be held at Jones Day while Friday and Saturday's Research Forum events will be held at Pitt Law. ASIL welcomes Lana Zerkal as their Practitioner Forum keynote speaker, who will deliver the 31st Annual McLean Lecture on World Law. Ms. Zerkal is a Ukrainian diplomat, former Advisor to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and Advisor to the CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine, and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Panel One: Cyberattacks: Public Law, Private Application

This panel will explore several aspects of the use and development of public international law by private actors in this field, including the application of the laws of war to insurance claims for cyberattacks, the development of a “digital emblem” to protect private providers of humanitarian assistance, and the complications and legal consequences of attribution in the event of a cyberattack.
