If you're a foreign-trained lawyer looking to broaden your understanding of the US legal system, Pitt Law's LLM program is an excellent option. Our program offers a dynamic community of scholars and students, providing you with a supportive yet challenging academic environment in which to thrive. We welcome applications from students with a proven track record of success who can excel in a competitive academic environment.
Apply directly through our website, either via the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) or GradCAS. Your application will require:
- A completed and signed application form
- University and other post-secondary transcripts with grades (including English translation)
- Professional and Educational Goals Statement (your “personal statement”)
- Your CV or resume
- Official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo results
- Three letters of recommendation
- Certification of financial capacity
- The required application fee
We request that all students seeking admission to the LLM program submit their application by April 1 of each year to be considered for fall admission and financial aid. Students not requesting financial aid may submit their application up to June 1 and still be considered for fall admission.
The University of Pittsburgh welcomes applications from talented students worldwide. However, current federal travel bans may prevent admitted students from certain countries from obtaining a visa to study in the United States. We recommend that students from these countries who do not have a valid U.S. visa and/or are currently living outside of the United States delay their application until there is a clear pathway to obtain a student visa. Prospective international students can review the current information about U.S. entry on the Office of International Services website.
